My name is Jane
I am the founder of The Gastropod Shop. I grew up collecting and taking care of garden snails here in the UK. I often found myself rescuing those with broken shells, releasing them again once they were mended. My love of garden snails led me to buy my first giant African land snail at age 16, a beautiful lissachachatina fulica rodatzi, who I named Kupa (short for Kupatwa Kwa Jua, which is Swahili for "Solar Eclipse"). Kupa taught me so much about GALS care, but sadly the most important lesson was to be careful with what breeders you choose to trust. Kupa passed away at about 3.5-4 years old, and he only grew to about 11cm. I later discovered that this species has become heavily inbred in the UK, with most individuals being bred and sold unethically. It became my greatest passion, learning everything I could and sourcing healthier snails.
First and foremost, all of my snails are beloved pets, many of which I cannot and will not breed from to protect their well being and ensure only healthy genetic lines. But some of these lovelies I do occasionally allow to breed in the hopes of healthy snails going back out into the world, and contributing to the ever growing community of snail enthusiasts.
Snails are highly underrated pets in my opinion, so whether you are looking for your first snail or to add to a pre-existing group, I very much hope to help you in whatever way I can. Whether this is care advice, breeder recommendations or supplying you with your next pet. Unlike some stores, I value quality over quantity, and the wellbeing of my animals always comes before business - so I will not have snails constantly in stock. That said, feel free to let me know if you have any interest, and I can add you to a waiting list or let you know when I am likely to have future clutches.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback! I am not perfect, and I am always open to improving, be it our site or practices!

The snails who make all of this happen!
Rupert & Daisy
Archachatina marginata ovum
Our lovely WC albino ovum adults. Their favourite foods are courgette and banana. Rupert's hobbies include watching his wife Daisy and their adopted son slime about the tank!
Kozy
Archachatina marginata ovum
The ball of chaos himself! Kozy is our captive bred albino ovum. He is a sub adult who we hope to breed from in a year or two. His favourite foods are sweet potatoes and courgettes, but honestly nothing edible survives for long in the tank!
Kovu & Vitani
Archachatina marginata ovum
These gorgeous siblings were CB here in the UK. They are roughly 6 months old and enjoying life in the juvenile tank together. Kovu is dark skinned, while Vitani is acromelanic. It is our hope that we will be able to pair one of these two with Kozy in a couple of years once they have grown and matured.
Yumiko
Archachatina marginata ovum
Beautiful Yumiko is our most recent adoption. She sadly did not have the best start in life, but she survived the improper care! Her shell is very worn from acidic substrate and rasping from other snails, so she is receiving some much needed TLC in her quarantine tank. She has been doing amazingly, and will join Rupert & co in a few months, once her shell is a little stronger. This is important, as we do not want her breeding while her shell is thin and damaged. This is due to the effort required and the calcium loss of egg production.
Bug
Lissachatina fulica
Bug has been with us for quite a while! She is our WC fulica. She is a rather picky princess, but does enjoy her leafy greens and sweet potatoes - She is waiting for a WC mate and we hope she will eventually have some healthy F1 babies!
Herschel & Beth
Lissachatina fulica
This stunning captive bred duo are sure to impress! Not only do they have beautiful green/brown shell colouration, but they are some of the most outgoing snails we have ever met! They eat just about anything, and are very confident when handled. These two are siblings, so if they reach a good adult size, they will find suitable partners when they are older. We hope this will be towards the end of 2026.
Cornifer & Iselda
Archachatina marginata suturalis
Our lovely WC suturalis! These two are quite shy, but we love watching them do laps of their tank. They are still settling into captive life, and likely won't be ready to breed until later this year.
The lovely Limicolaria!
Limicolaria aethiops
Our adult group are some of the most snacrobatic snails we have ever met! They are WC but have settled in so well. We strive to give all of our snails a natural enclosure with the resources we have, and this has really helped our WC groups. They have so far produced two large clutches, we hope they will find loving homes this year!
Cornu Aspersum
Our big group of 17!
Some of this group were adopted this year, originally destined for escargot! They are loving life, and settling into our pre-existing captive bred group.
